He married the 5th of 5th mo 1784 at New Garden Friends Meeting, Guilford Co., NC, Ann Thornburgh. About 1811 they left North Carolina for Ohio, settling near Fairfield Friends Meeting, Clinton County, Ohio. Following Ann's death in 1835, Joseph left Ohio for Indiana, transferring his membership to Walnut Ridge Friends Meeting, Rush County, Indiana where his death is recorded as having happened on 1st of 8th mo 1843. Joseph and Ann were the parents of eight children: Hannah, Margaret, John, Nathan, Jane, Elizabeth, Ann, and Rachel.
