Television Personality, Author. Nicknamed "The King of Nostalgia." Regarded by many as a pioneer of the television talk show format, his program "The Joe Franklin Show" ran for more than 40-years from 1950 until 1993. At one point, he earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest running talk show program. Born Joseph Fortgang, his association with the entertainment industry began during his mid teens, when he worked behind-the-scenes for such radio personalities as Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor and Kate Smith. During the course of his career, it is estimated that Franklin interviewed 300,000 personalities. Among them, Charlie Chaplin, Bing Crosby, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra and Ronald Reagan. Additionally, he was also known for his radio program "Memory Lane." He authored several books which include "Up Late With Joe Franklin" (1995). He died from prostate cancer.
