Ms. Miriam Sanders Burt, 83, of Valley died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 at Bethany House in Auburn.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Revs. Derrick Hubbard and J.B. Burt Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Chewning Family Cemetery in Lee County.
Mrs. Burt is survived by her son, Thomas Gerald (Patricia) Burt Sr. of the Lake Harding community; one daughter, Sandra Chewning of Valley; grandchildren, Cassie Blackstone, Barbie Seals, Thomas Gerald Burt Jr., Lasha Paige and Pamela Michelle Howard; one sister, Barbara Davis of Mesquite, Texas; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Born June 2, 1925 in Chambers County, Ms. Burt was the daughter of the late Ollie Daughtry Sanders and Arthur Sanders. She was a former employee of WestPoint Pepperell's Fairfax Mill with 20 years of service, and she retired from Lanett Mill after 27 years of service. Mrs. Burt had served as the den mother for the Cub Scouts in Lanett. She loved her family and family gatherings. Mrs. Burt was an avid reader, loved to sew and enjoyed fishing. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Crystal "Shelly" Chewning Williams.
She was a member of the Baptist faith.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
