Norfolk - Shirley Fay Sison, 79, passed away at her home in Norfolk on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.

Chances are- if you spent any significant time in Ocean View, particularly if you had kids in Ocean View- you had the pleasure of meeting Fay. Or you at least knew her kin, who tend to know everyone. Fay worked for many years on Chelsea Avenue at what is now known as Ocean Learning Center. She loved every minute she spent there taking care of babies.

Born Shirley Fay Barber on March 8, 1935, Fay was originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, but spent much of her life in Portsmouth & Norfolk. She was the mother of six and a devoted wife of Emiliano Sison for 40 years. "Nanny," as she was known to her 15 grandkids and 18 great-grandkids, was famous for shaking her hips whenever the mood struck, swooning over her "fellers," watching her favorite romance movies & laughing her way through each day.

Fay is preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Foust & Shelton Barber; siblings Pauline Veselosky, Vivian Edwards, Beverly Bell, Lois Weaver & Josephine Carlton; & son David Nickerson.
