CHANNING - Ruth E. Skelton, 88, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Channing United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Chambers officiating. Burial will be in Channing Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St.

Mrs. Skelton was born April 16, 1918, in Rosenberg to Joseph and Alice Bennett Glaze. The Glaze family moved to California when she was 16.

She married P.W. Skelton in El Centro, Calif., on April 18, 1937. In 1939, she and her husband moved to Channing, where they raised their daughters. She adored her family. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, P.W., in 1996; two sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include two daughters, Lea Balfour of Amarillo and Lynell McClary of Portales, N.M.; a brother, Leslie Glaze of Manteca, Calif; four grandchildren, Scott Balfour and wife Deborah of Amarillo, Kelly McClary and wife Sheryl and Brien McClary and wife Stephanie, all of Portales, and Lynlea Fleischman and husband Steve of Noblesville, Ind.; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Channing First United Methodist Church, Drawer E, Channing, TX 79018.
