James A. Arthur, 70, 2505 Avenue E, Fort Madison, died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at his home.

Born March 25, 1928, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Anthony and Edna McKoon Arthur. On Jan. 28, 1977, he married Charlotte Brown in Burlington.
Mr. Arthur worked for the Federal Atomic Energy Commission in Middletown until his retirement.
He was a member of Sts. Mary and Joseph Church and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was well known as a softball player and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Alan Arthur of Wayzata, Minn., Daniel Arthur of Seattle, Rick Arthur of Cedar Rapids, John Arthur of Fort Madison and Brad Arthur of Minneapolis; one daughter, Kelly Beckert of Fort Madison; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter and one brother.
Visitation will begin after noon today in King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison. There will be a rosary recited at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Arthur will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Sts. Mary & Joseph Church, with the Rev. Robert McAleer officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Fort Madison Community Hospital Home Health Care.
