Thelma was raised in a loving foster home in Ellicott City by her parents Verona and Maynard Sutton and her eldest foster brother, Thomas Sutton and his wife Evelyn. After graduating from Howard High School, Thelma went on to marry her "soldier boy' and childhood sweetheart, John W. Bowman, on October 5, 1968, upon his return from Vietnam. Thelma devoted her life to nurturing and loving her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren, reading, baking, and caring for the newest addition to her family, her dog, Charlie. Her generous welcoming and her generous heart filled her home with love, family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, John W. Bowman of Ellicott City; her son, John Michael Bowman and his wife, Jennifer of Ellicott City; daughters, Melissa A. Lowe and her husband James Lowe, of Ellicott City; and Marcia D. Wedemeyer and her husband, Brian Wedemeyer of Ellicott City; a sister, Wanda Rush and her husband, Arnold Rush of Florida; foster brother, James Lee Maze, Jr. and his wife, Cephie of California and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Jeffrey and Rachel Bowman, James and Montana Lowe, Nicole Kessler, Josephine Lozano, Erin and Sean Wedemeyer and Amanda Whiting, and one great-granddaughter, Payton Kessler. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Verona and Maynard Sutton; brothers, Charles Endley, Jr. and Thomas Sutton and his wife, Evelyn and several other brothers and sisters. She leaves her husband, family and friends with the knowledge that they were truly loved.
