Mrs. Mildred R. Hudkins, 68, of Michigan City, died Thursday, May 28, 1987, at 11:11 a.m. Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.

She was born July 8, 1918, in Center Township, LaPorte County, to Elmer and Frances (Drake) Shipton and lived in the area all her life. She was a member of the Earl Road Christian Church; Women of the Moose; VFW Auxiliary and Daughters of the Nile Chapter 153. She had worked for Interstate Metal for 18 years and retired after 10 years as an assembler from Milton Roy in 1984.

On June 11, 1939 she married Robert A. Hale Sr. who died in 1967.

On April 15, 1972, she married Edward Hudkins Sr., who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Robert A. Jr., Richard and Dennis Hale, all of Michigan City; one daughter, Ruth Williams, of Michigan City; three stepsons, Terry, of Schaumburg, Ill., Steven, of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Edward Jr., of Winfield, Ill.; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one brother, Harry Shipton, of Rolling Prairie. One son, Jerry Hale, four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Carlisle Funeral Home with Dick Baugh officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 4-9 and Saturday until the time of services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Carlisle Funeral Home. Dick Baugh will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and until the service tomorrow at the funeral home.
