Sweetwater Pioneer, Hurt in Fall, Dies

Sweetwater, Dec. 14 - Mrs. Mary Alice Moody, 77, a pioneer Sweetwater resident, died in Sweetwater Hospital Wednesday night. Mrs. Moody was admitted to the hospital Nov. 11 after she suffered a fall from the porch at her home and fractured her hip.

Mrs. Moody was born in Coryell County, Aug. 16, 1873. She moved to Sweetwater in 1882. It was here that she married G. W. Moody. He died here in 1932.

They made their home in Sweetwater and Nolan County with the exception of two years spent in Childress County. The small community of Moodyville was named for the couple.

She was a charter member of the Highland Heights Methodist Church and a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Highland Heights Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. J. L. Mayhew, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Billy Wilkinson.

Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery with Cate-Spencer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be W. L. (Doc) Scott, Jim Bugg, O. M. Scott, Cecil Kearney, J. W. Burkett and E. E. Alexander.

Survivors include one son, J. F. Moody, Sweetwater; two brothers, J. Graham of South Texas and Lee Graham, San Angelo; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Brown of Trent and Mrs. Allie Waldrop of Hagerman, N.M.; two grandsons, J. W. Moody and Orville Moody, both of Abilene; and five great-grandchildren.
