At the age of 28, Ira Thomas Haney enlisted in the 50th Infantry, Company H, in Alabama on May 14, 1861. He enlistment rank was Corporal. On April 6, 1862, he was wounded in Shiloh, Tennessee. The wound caused a loss of his leg. He mustered out on May 1, 1863. (Source Ancestry)

Ira Thomas Haney served in the Civil War from 14 May 1861 to 1 May 1863 . He was wounded 23 May 1862 near Corinth Mississippi. His leg was shot off in the Battle of Shiloh. It is buried in the National Cemetery at Corinth, Corporal, Company "H", 26th Regiment. Alabama Volunteers, 50th Infantry, CSA. File Number M374 roll 18.

I visited Ira Thomas Haney's grave in Iuka, Mississippi in August 2003. On Highway U.S. 72 that runs east and west. You go south on State Road 25 you travel south and about a mile and one half there is a New Prospect Baptist Church. Right behind the church is Prospect Cemetery. In the middle of the Cemetery is Ira T. Haney's Grave.
Ira married Rhoda Pittman and they had 14 children.

Ira's wife, Rhoda Pittman Haney is buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Troy, Mississippi.

Ira lived to be 69 years, 3 months and 11 days old.
