Loyd Ray Evans, 84, of Mansfield, died shortly after midnight, Monday, January 26, 2015, at Mifflin Care Center. He was born January 4, 1931, in Haldeman, Kentucky, to the late Morley Ray Evans and Tina Withrow Evans. Growing up in a large family of ten children taught him independence, tolerance and patience.

Loyd retired as a Tech Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. While in the Air Force, he earned the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Good Conduct Medal. An all around good person, Loyd enjoyed the simple things in life: going out to eat, camping, fishing, or taking a drive. He was a faithful member of Apostolic Faith Assembly.

He is survived by two sons, Phillip Evans of Covington, OH and Roger (Trish) Evans of Ashland, KY; a dear friend, Dora Gearhart of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Michael, Tammy, Maria, and Carrie; two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Aimie; three brothers, Elwood (Mildred) Evans of New Castle, IN, Pete Evans of Ashland, KY and Billy Evans of Mansfield; a sister, Rita Click of Norwood, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie M. Evans: parents and five brothers.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Apostolic Faith Assembly Church, 258 Stadium St., Mansfield with Pastor Robert O'Brian officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Faith Assembly. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
