Joseph R. Stempien Jr., passed suddenly and peacefully among friends on January 27,2015.
Joe was the first of 11 children, born on April 18, 1931 to Joseph and Helen (Koper) Stempien in Romulus Michigan.
Joe worked in Detroit until his enlistment in the Army in 1951.
While in Korea he earned 2 bronze stars and several other commendations.
In 1971, Joe joined the Dictograph Security Team, selling and installing security alarms for home and business. In two years Joe started his own company, Lakeland Security Systems and fully retired in 2014. 

Joe married Grace M Krout from Kansas City Missouri on July 25, 1959, having four children and committed to being a loving and supportive Father. Later he fell in love with Mary Harsh where they lived together for 11 years before marrying in June 1, 1989.

Joe was a handyman and loved to keep busy. He enjoyed woodworking, and making gifts for his family and friends. Joe's pride accomplishment was the solar panel system for his home that he constructed and maintained himself.
He enjoyed his computer, keeping in touch with family and friends by E-mail and Facebook. He enjoyed his time spent socializing, and he was a member of the Moose in Fremont, American Legion, Eagles and the VFW.
He loved his family dearly. He took his honor and loyalty for his country very seriously, and was not embarrassed to display his patriotism.

Joe is survived by his children, Joseph H (Patricia) Stempien, Mary M (Edward) Messmer, Jennifer H (James) Maxson, and Lisa A Stempien; 8 grandchildren, Sara Murray, Harley Stempien, Jeffery Messmer, Dustin Burritt, Dillon Burritt, Jami Maxson, Kali Tennison, Kyla Tennison and Andy Simon and 7 Great-grandchildren.
Siblings are Delores Linton, Anthony (Carolyn) Stempien, Ronald (Eva) Stempien, William (Linda) Stempien, Patricia Crow, Charles Stempien, Robert (Carol) Stempien, and David (Paulette) Stempien and 33 Nieces and Nephews.

He is proceeded in death by Wife: Mary Stempien, Father: Joseph Stempien, Mother: Helen Stempien, Brothers: Richard Stempien and Leonard Stempien, and Great-granddaughter Alexis Stempien.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service and American Legion Honor Guard on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Moose Lodge in Fremont from 2pm to 5pm.
There will be a ceremony starting at 2:30 pm Sunday and food and fellowship will follow the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers we will accept donations to honor America's Hero's, Honor Flight
