Born Elias (or Ellis) Ackle, of Syrian descent from the Ackle family of Jackson, Mississippi, Father Xavier Ackle, O.S.B., was a Benedictine monk of St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Alabama. He studied for the priesthood at St. Bernard College, where he was named for St. Francis Xavier upon entering the Order of St. Benedict, and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1942. He received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame in 1952. Fr. Xavier was a teacher at Subiaco Academy in Subiaco, Arkansas, during the 1960s. He died in 1987 at age 72.
