Came to Cleveland from Poland. Married Bertha Lichtman, father of Aaron, Henry, Saul, Roy, Jules, Sylvester and Clay.

Hertz, father of Common Pleas Judge David Ralph Hertz and a general contractor here for 40 years, died shortly before midnight at Mount Sinai Hospital after an operation a week ago for a gastric ailment. Mr. Hertz, who was 65, came to Cleveland from Poland 44 years ago and became known as builder of many of the largest apartment buildings on the East Side. A constant supporter of Jewish Charities, he was one of the organizers of the Hebrew Free Loan Society and a member of the committee repsonsible for erecting Mount Sinai Hispital. His chief recreation was the study of the Talmud, in which he was known as a scholar. He was a member of the temple at Parkwood and Morison Avenues N. E. He is survived by his wife, Bertha, and seven sons, Besides Judge Hertz, who was elected to the Common Pleas bench in 1932, they include Henry, an attorney-investigator for the Federal Communications Commissions; Dr. Saul of Boston, a member of the Harvard University Medical faculty; Dr. Roy of Providence, a member of the Brown University faculty; Jules, Sylvester and Clay. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 at the J. D. Deutsch Funeral Home, 1486 Crawford Road N. E. 1871 - 1926. Lansing Cem. Cleve, Ohio.
