page 17 of "Genealogy of the Barney Family in America" refutes the claim on page 36 of "Danforth Genealogy...." Mary Danforth Barney married second to Capt John Andrews...." It Never happened. It was another Mary Barney.
"Someone has concluded that the widow Mary (Danforth) Barney was Mrs. Mary Barney who married Capt. John Andrews on May 20, 1736, but this is INCORRECT. Mary Danforth Barney (b. Dec. 5, 1698; md. by Feb. 11, 1716; d. Aug. 20, 1792) married but ONCE, to Jacob Barney. On August 6, 1736, a deed states "Mary Barney, widow of Mr. Jacob Barney, late deceased of Taunton, who now is a resident of Rehoboth but late of Swanzey." The deed is acknowledged by her on the same date. From the manuscript record of Elijah Briggs of Berkley, Mass. has gleaned the death of "Mary Barney, aged 94 years, widow of Taunton, August 20, 1792. She was the mother of Capt. Job Smith's wife and was born Dec. 3, 1698." Mrs. Mary Barney who md. Capt. John Andrews on May 20, 1736, may have been Mary (Throop) Barney her mother-in-law. No proof of that either!
Please take note: Mary Danforth Barney was NEVER married to Capt. John Andrews. Mary Danforth only married once in her lifetime and that was to JACOB BARNEY.
