Hal Johnson, 78, of Claremont, NH, died January 13, 2015 in Sebring, Florida, where he spent his winters.

Hal was born on October 13, 1936 in Claremont, NH, the son of Vera and Harold Johnson.

Hal proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1965. He achieved the rank of E-5 Sargent, obtained a Brown Belt in Judo and won the Southern Japan Championship during his time in the Corps. He was a Police Officer with the Claremont Police force and an industrial photographer for Joy Manufacturing Co.

Hal was best known for owning and operating Hal Johnson Photography. Hal was synonymous with photography. Having captured countless life memories, say the name "Hal Johnson" and you will hear how he did their wedding, senior pictures, family pictures and so on.

Most recently Hal was a bailiff for the State of New Hampshire.

Always a people person, Hal rarely met a stranger and his generous smile was his trademark.

He married Doris Potter Burr in 1974, together they shared 33 years until her passing.

On October 13, 2007 he married Wendy Caruso.

Hal is survived by his wife, Wendy; his daughter, Brenda Jennings and her husband, Roy; one step-daughter, Lanissa Simoneau; two step-sons, Rick Sipitaowski and Bill Burr; his grandchildren, Trevor Jennings and his wife, Ann, Roy Jennings, Zachary Dole and his wife, Amy, Matthew Simoneau, Michael Simoneau and Alyssa Burr; his great-grandsons, Dalton Jennings, Cooper and Hunter Olsen. Hal is also survived by Wendy's family, Vicki, Michael and Mercedes West; Jay, Lindsay, Anthony, and Maddy Caruso and Paxton Miller. He is also survived by a special niece, Tina Bills and her family.

Hal is predeceased by his son, David Johnson, and Wendy's daughter, Robin Caruso.

Visiting hours will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday, May 9th from 10-11 AM, funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Donna Gage, officiating.

Burial will be held in Mountain View Cemetery with military honors.

A reception will follow at the Claremont Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Union Church; 998 Route 12, Westmoreland, NH 03467, where Hal was a member of their congregation.
