Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 28th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 4, 1862, and was mustered in as a Corporal in Company G on September 20, 1862. He served through the December 1862 Fredericksburg Campaign, and the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign, and was honorably mustered out on June 30, 1863.

Theodore was born October 1838 in Mt. Holly, Burlington, NJ, and died 27 October 1909 in Clementon, Camden, NJ. At the time of his death, he was Assemblyman in the NJ State Legislature, and as its oldest member, affectionately known as the "Father of the House."

He married Mary French Snyder on 4 February 1864 in Mt. Holly

Mary French Snyder was the daughter of James and Sabilla (Cowperthwaite) Snyder. Mary was born 20 April 1836 in Mt. Holly, and died 7 March 1912 in Clementon, Camden, NJ.

In addition to the two children on the headstone (Sabilla Cowperthwaite Gibbs & Lewis Eugene Gibbs), Theodore and Mary had James Snyder Gibbs, Willard F, and Edgar Bismark Gibbs, all of whom lived to adulthood.
