In Research of Lucy, I found her living in Logan County, KY in 1880. History shows she was born in Virginia. Through a McPhail Researcher, they showed she was born in Roanoke, Virginia. I have never been able to verify this. In 1870, she is living with another family. There is a Robert Read also there. I believe this was a brother. In 1900 Census, they ask how many times married and she says once, that would be to William McConnell.
My Mother says when she was about six years old, her grandmother, Mary McConnell Tinsley, had taken both Mom and her sister, Helen, along with her to take care of her mother at " Granny's " house in Bucksville. Granny had been sick. While Mary was out hanging clothes on the line, Granny crawled up some old steps to an attic and brought down some dolls for Mom and Helen. My Mother still has these today. The shorter doll had a face drawn with a pencil. It also has real red human hair sewn on it's head. The bigger one had a glass head with black wavy hair painted on it. The head was broken and lost some years ago.
Very old. These might have been Lucy's dolls when she was young or belonged to Mary or her siblings
