Edith Ruth Alderson, pioneer Oregon teacher, resident of Portland 40 years, died Friday at the home of her sister, Marguerite Burkhart in Albany. She was 80 years old and until retirement 15 years ago had taught in the elementary schools of the state, including Stayton, Woodburn, Salem, Corvallis and Baker. The last 30 years of her career were spent in the Portland schools. She was a member of Sunnyside chapter, Eastern Star; neighbors of Woodcraft, circle No. 528 of the Sunnyside Methodist church women’s organization, and of the Retired Teachers’ association. Surviving besides her sister are five nephews and two nieces. Miss Alderson, daughter of Oregon pioneers Rev. C. and Mary Royal Alderson, was born in Empire April 30, 1869, received her education in public schools of Salem and at Willamette university.
