Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alfred Gilpin Building in Macy, with Mr. Ronald Kemp officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Tribal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today and continue until service time Tuesday at Mr. Parker's residence in Macy. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, Neb.
Nate was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Winnebago, Neb., the son of Valentine Parker Sr. and Minnie Woodhull. He attended school in Macy and Flander Indian School in South Dakota. He also attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
He served on the Omaha Tribal Council for nine years and was most recently employed as the director of the American Indian Center in Sioux City before retiring due to his health. He also served on the board of Flander Indian School.
Nate is survived by his wife, Vanessa; his children, Brian Parker and his wife, Michelle Gouge of Lincoln, Neb., Darren Parker of Lincoln, Nate Parker Jr. and his wife, Delores Santana of Sioux City, Natalie Parker of North Platte, Neb., and Thomas Parker of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Valentine Parker Jr. of Macy; a sister, Viola Walker of Macy; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine Gilpin; and three brothers, Matthew Parker, Baldwin Parker and Joe Kemp.
