07/17/1929 – 01/11/2011
Class of 1948 La Marque High School
A Good Man

It is all too rare in this time of frequent selfishness and greed, hate and polarization that a man lived who can truly be called good. He taught his family by honest example the meaning of integrity, doing what is right whether in the light of day or in the obscurity of the dark. Ever the quiet loving mentor and man behind the scenes doing for others, he took the most pleasure in the joy brought to them. Though a Father to one; he was a Dad to many. A retired Air Force Master Sergeant after 23 years of proud military service in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He provided instruction for six years in Air Craft Mechanics at The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs from the flight line at Lowery Air Force Base, to include for the first class of Air Force Cadets. He worked for M.D. Anderson for 15 years as the Maintenance Control Planner until his retirement in August of 1992. He was the Founder and Caller for the Heiss Foot Square Dance Club in Texas City, Texas.

Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Iris Patricia Daniel Shaddox, whom he married on June 3 of 1951, in La Marque, Texas; son Robert C. and wife Peggy (Smith) Shaddox and adopted son Benjamin L. Johns; sisters Susie Alexander, Molly Stutts and Nancy Lou McClendon; grandchildren Ryan, Chelsea, and Adam Johns; nieces Denise Witton, Barbara Stroble, Linda Adamson, Alice Smith, Glenda Parker, Virgina McLeod, Noel Wilkins and Molly Jo Stutts; nephews Michael Glass, Troy Alexander, Terry Alexander and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his son Gregory Gene Crump, mother Katy Taylor Crump, stepfather Hollis Crump, step-father Johnny Owens, father Robert H Shaddox and stepmother Pearl Shaddox.

Memorial Services will be held the Peace Lutheran Church in Texas City, Texas at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the National Kidney Foundation, National Cancer Society and Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

We are grateful to God for allowing him to be in our lives to bless and enrich us through his presence.
