Irma Faye Patterson was born July 12, 1903 near Stanton, Iowa to Armistead Allison and Laura May Route Doggett. She died October 15, 1999 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.
She remembered traveling as a small child in a covered wagon when her family moved to Arkansas. Along the way a lone horseback rider joined them through Kansas City as he was afraid. They almost lost the wagon at the White River and the Buffalo River, due to the swift currents. They were in the Jasper, Arkansas area approximately two years when ill health of her father forced their return to Iowa.
She graduated with honors from Villisca High School in 1922. In 1923 she taught country school northeast of Villisca riding horseback to arrive early to build a fire in the old stove at Findley School. She later taught south of Stanton at the Children’s Orphanage. After teaching she worked at Spurgeons Store in Villisca.
In the 50’s she worked at the Villisca Telephone company as a telephone operator and also at Weiner’s Supermarket.
She married Albert “Cappy” Patterson in Red Oak in 1929. She was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service, and a 50 year member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1974, sister, Lillian Johnson, brother, Don Dogged, daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Patterson, grandson, Richard Parish Jr., three brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.
She is survived by children, Don Patterson; Carol Greenfield and husband Jerry, and Norma Parish, all of Villisca, Iowa; John Patterson and wife Pat of Escondido, California. Aldo twelve grandchildren and 22 great-grand-children.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Senior Citizens, or the villisca Ambulance.
