The following is a typewritten obituary that was found in the effects of Virginia (Epp) Brown, a granddaughter of Henry & Anna (Wiebe) Epp. While some information matches the obituary that was published in the Beatrice Daily Sun, it offers additional information, so perhaps it was used at the funeral service.
OBITUARY - HENRY P. EPP
Henry P. Epp was born in Warnau, West Prussia, Germany on March 19, 1871. His parents were Abraham and Marie (nee Penner) Epp. His mother passed away two years prior to his coming to America with his father, brothers and sisters. He received his education in the parochial school in Germany and later in the public school near Hoag, Nebraska.
He was baptized by Elder Gerhard Penner and became a member of the Mennonite Church west of Beatrice in 1889. In 1926 he transferred his membership to the Beatrice Mennonite Church.
He was united in marriage with Anna Wiebe on September 19, 1901, near DeWitt, Nebraska. This union was blessed with 6 sons and 1 daughter. The deceased was preceded in death by one son, Louie, who died in 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Epp were permitted to live together in happy marriage over 60 years.
Mr. Epp was a farmer in the Beatrice vicinity until his retirement in 1935 when he and Mrs. Epp moved to Beatrice. He enjoyed exceptionally good health until approximately a year ago. He was a faithful member of his church throughout his life. Always a loving father and husband, his family was his first concern.
He passed away at the Mennonite Hospital, Beatrice, Nebraska, on July 25, 1962 at the age of 91. He is survived by his sons Walter and Fred of Beatrice, Hermann of Valentine, Abram and Henry of Lincoln, and his daughter Louise (Mrs. William Peterson) of Lexington, Nebraska, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and one brother, Cornelius of Beatrice, also a host of other relatives and friends.
Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep!
From which none ever wake to weep;
A clam and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.
Asleep in Jesus, peaceful rest, Whose waking is supremely blest;
No fears - no woe, shall dim the hour
That manifests the Savior's power.
