Cecil Wendell Bunch Sr., age 75, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.

The native of Bulloch County graduated from Marvin Pittman High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Navy and served 20 years, retiring in 1976 at the rank of chief petty officer. Mr. Bunch then joined the Public Safety Department at Georgia Southern College (now University) in 1980 and retired as a sergeant after 20 years of service. Mr. Bunch was an active member of Elmer Baptist Church, where he joined and was baptized at a young age. He enjoyed fishing, boating, reading and crossword puzzle books. He loved Georgia Southern football games and tailgating with his friends. But most of all, he enjoyed hosting cookouts at his Barbeque Barn for his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is also survived by two granddaughters, Meghan Bunch (Jonathan) Roy and Kelly Bunch (Barrett) Gates, all of Jacksonville, Fla. He has two great-grandchildren, Reese and Mitchell Roy of Jacksonville. He is also survived by two sisters, Merle B. Hogan and Faye B. Bacon, both of Statesboro; and a sister-in-law, Janet B. Bunch of Canton, Ga.
