Professional Sports Team Owner. She was often called "The First Lady of Football" and served a lengthy tenure as "Matriarch" for one of the National Football League's most historic franchises, the New York Giants. The widow of former New York Giants' proprietor Wellington Mara, she continued (along with her family) as partial owner until her death. Born Ann Mumm, she worked for Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau and met Wellington Mara in 1952. The couple married two-years later. Wellington at that time was already working for the Giants, which his father Timothy Mara founded in 1925. Following Wellington's death in 2005, the Giants captured two Super Bowl titles (XLII in 2008 and XLVI in 2010). Ann was very active in philanthropic causes and was involved in efforts for the benefit of children and education. She died of complications from a fall at her home.
