Flags throughout Lancaster are lowered to half mast today in memory of C. Scott Berry, a 27-year-veteran of the Lancaster Fire Dept. Mr. Berry, who died Tuesday afternoon in Lancaster Fairfield County Hospital at the age of 71, served as a captain on the fire department from 1942 until his retirement from the force in 1968. Appointed to the department on Jan. 1. 1942, he also served as acting assistant chief for six months in 1943.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Berry, of the residence, 724 N. Maple St.; one son, Alan Berry of Columbus, and two grandchildren. . Mr. Berry was a member of Model A. Restorers Club and Lancaster Old Car Club. He was affiliated with many musical organizations in Lancaster, including The Brass Cords. He directed the inter-church orchestra sponsored by Mills Memorial United Methodist Church and Lancaster United Brethren Church. At the time of his death, Mr, Berry was director of Olivedale Senior Citizen Center orchestra. He was a member of Lancaster Church of United Brethren in Christ. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Theller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Bishop and the Rev. Randy Hutchison officiating with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, The family suggests con tributions be made tn Lancaster Church of United Brethren in Christ Building Fund c . the Olivedale Senior Citizens Center Music Fund.
