Mr. Miller (born in Lauterecken, Germany) came to this city from Germany in October 1850 and began his career as a shoemaker. He learned his trade with the late Peter Kropp. He leased a shop on South Main Street on the site now occupied by the Bon Ton Millinery Store and paid $26 a year rent. He continued business up until 1871. His wife died in 1896.
