Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he had lived in Enfield for several years, moving to Somers 11 years ago. He retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of platoon sergeant in 1971 after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War, receiving a Bronze Star, and the Vietnam War. He also served in Japan, France, Germany and Panama.
He owned and operated the Family Bedding furniture store in Stafford from 1989 to 1994.
He was a member of the Tanguay-Magill Post No. 80 American Legion and the Patrick F. Triggs Post No. 1501 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of All Saints Church in Somersville and the American Association of Retired Persons.
He is survived by his wife, Hesiquia Segundo-Valdes Abrams; a son, Alexander Abrams of Somers; three daughters, Brenda Abrams of Somers, Maritza Green of Vernon and Bonny Trotta of Broad Brook; a brother, William Abrams of Akron, N.Y.; two sisters, Betty Sienkiewicz and Myrtle Berzer-Lord, both of Buffalo; and three grandchildren.
A Mass, followed by military honors, will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in All Saints Church, Somersville. Burial at the family's convenience will be in the Somers Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Somers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
