Clyde was born Jun 16 1920 in Newport, Clay Co TX to George Hamilton and Irene H. Jordan Whitaker. He was the youngest son of the family. My mother, Mary Sue Whitaker Prewitt, always described him as being happy most of the time, except when he was in trouble with their dad. He enlisted in the army in February of 1944, having married Marianna Laing, and had 2 boys of his own by this time, Clyde Jr. and Jerry Don. He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge on January 2, 1945, and his body was not recovered and brought home until many years later. Mother said he was the best dancer of all of her brothers, and being the closest in age, he was her favorite.
