Jesse Hugh Ralston was born August 27, 1888 in Coxs Mills, Gilmer County, West Virginia, the third of six children born to William Renick Ralston and his first wife, Samantha Jane Bush. Jessie would have nine other half-brothers and sisters through his father's other two marriages.
Jesse married four times. On October 17, 1909 in Gilmer County, West Virginia, Jesse married Ica May Goff, his first wife. Three children were born to the couple. Their first child was born in Gilmer County in 1910. About 1913 and after the birth of their second child, the family moved to Marion, Ohio, where their third and last child was born. It was in Marion that Ica died January 6, 1918; they had been married 8 years. After Ica's death Jesse married the widow Nannie Rosella McGrath Davis in Marion County, Ohio. Nannie had four children from her previous marriage. Nanny died October 8, 1923 at the age of 43, and then Jesse married the widow Mrs. Bertha E. (McGhee) DeWitt on December 15, 1926. There were no children born from either his second or third wives. Jesse's fourth and last wife was Zelma C. Hedburg. The date and place of their marriage is not known. As with Jesse's previous two wives, there were no children from this union.
Jesse and Zelma resided in Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona. It is not known when Jesse, or they, moved there. Jesse's eldest son, Jesse Buel Ralston, had lived in Arizona since the 1960's.
Jessie died Sunday June 29, 1986 at the Tuscon General Hospital in Tuscon, Arizona at the age of 97 and was buried in the South Lawn Cemetery. He was survived by Zelma, his fourth wife, son Jesse, brother Forrest, half-sisters Estelle and Chrystal Page, seven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
