Obituary, Stringer Funeral Home (Claremont, NH), Feb 2015:

Roland R. “Dick” Irish, Jr. of Epsom, NH, went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, January 21, 2014 at the Epsom Manor Nursing Home, with his daughter Deby and wife Irene by his side.

Roland was born on October 3, 1930, at home to the late Louisa (Hertac) and Roland Irish, Sr., in Medford, MA.

He was predeceased by his younger brother William.

Roland graduated from Medford High School in June of 1949 and on November 6th of that year he married his high school sweet heart Irene (Cunningham) Irish who survives him.

In 1963 they moved to Claremont with their growing family. Roland was a Fulller Brush man for many years, then went on to found his own business Roland Irish Enterprises. He also drove taxi for a time and loved meeting new people.

Roland loved golf, bowling, snowmobiling and vacationing with the love of his life, Irene.

Roland and Irene moved to Epsom in 2009 to be closer to their daughter, Deborah and her family who helped care for him over the past 5 years. In April of 2014 he entered the Epsom Manor where he received excellent care. On November 2, 2014 Epsom Manor and Deborah hosted a surprise 65th Wedding Anniversary celebration attended by 20 family members. He was excited to see his daughter, Wendy and her son, Thomas from Georgia as well as his son, Randy and his wife and sister-in-law Gail.

Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Irene of Epsom, also his daughter, Deborah and her husband, Paul; son, Roland and his wife, Sue; daughter, Wendy; sons, John Irish and Chris Irish and his wife, Heather.

Roland loved being a hands on grandfather, helping in the care of several of his 14 grandchildren. We are blessed to have many pictures of him holding, feeding, playing with and napping with many of them.

He was thrilled to have his first great-great granddaughter placed in his arms for that special time with him.

He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 4 grandchildren-in-laws.

There will be no calling hours at his request.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Special Olympics or the National Autism Association in his name if you desire.
