Hulda was born Dec. 29, 1919, to Christian and Maria (Eisenbraun) Kiesz at the homestead farm eight miles south of Golden Valley. Hulda was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended a country school through the eighth grade and continued to help on the family farm. She briefly left home and attended a sewing school, bringing back the lessons she learned, whether it was patching jeans, quilting or crocheting afghans. On June 10, 1943, she married Alton Swenson near Zap. Hulda and Alton traveled to Eglin Field, (Army-Air Corps), Fla., where they lived until the end of the war.

They moved back to the family farm, east of Halliday, until they bought the Knut and Ruth Toft farm eight miles south of Halliday, enjoying many years of farming, cattle and raising their family. In 1976, they retired to the town of Halliday. Hulda was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, and she was active in ladies aid, the Friendship Homemakers Club and Dunn County Aging Council. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards and keeping up with the grandchildren. Hulda was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alton; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ellen Swenson, Halliday, and James and Darlene Swenson, Beulah; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dorothy Swenson, Minot, Charlotte and Daniel Neurohr, Dodge, and Julie and Wayne Rowe, Goodlands, Manitoba; seven grandchildren, Kelly and Scott Arntzen, Douglas and Carissa Swenson, Allison Swenson, Christina Neurohr, Dawn and Trent Martin, Christopher Rowe and McKenzie Rowe; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sydney Arntzen, and Colter Martin; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Kiesz Flatin, Shirley Kiesz, Martha Faut and Maggie Faut; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hulda was the last surviving member of her Faut-Kiesz generation. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl Kiesz, Harold Kiesz and Edward Kiesz; five half brothers, Reinhold Faut, William Faut, Ferdinand Faut, John Faut and Jake Kiesz; and six half sisters, Anna Kiesz, Mattie Kramer, Helen Kuch, Rose Link, Katie Mueller and Martha Highbe.
