PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Donald J. Akers, 62, a carpenter of Pittsfield, died Monday (Nov. 24, 1997) in his home.

Born Jan. 11, 1935, in Nebo, he was a son of Benjamin and Ruth Akers. He married Mildred I. Hull Aug. 31, 1956 , in Pittsfield.

Mr. Akers served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Pittsfield American Legion Post 152. He was employed by Petty Construction in Pittsfield, by the city of Pittsfield and by the Pike County Lumber Co.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Rita K.) Neff of Pittsfield; a son, Gary D. Akers of Winter Springs, Fla.; a grandson, Adam Neff of Pittsfield; a brother, Dale Akers of Pittsfield; and two sisters, Ruth Valu of Pleasant Hill and Louis Know of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bud, Hubert, Ronald and Vernon.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield by the Rev. Ken Mitchell. Burial with military rites will be in Greenpond Cemetery in Pearl.

Visitation will be in the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Greenpond Cemetery.
