Donald E. Bathel, 83, recently of Albert Lea, winter resident of Yuma, Ariz., and longtime resident of Claremont, passed away Nov. 1, 2005, at his home. He was born Dec. 20, 1921, near Owatonna, to Ernest and Rose Bathel. He worked on his Dad's dairy farm until he entered the army in 1941.
He served during World War II in Africa and Europe with the Red Bull infantry unit as a rifleman and a truck driver. He received a purple heart for being wounded in action. He was honorably discharged in August of 1945.
