Wanda J. Achilles, 83, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 9:07 p.m., Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 while in the company of family members, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.
Wanda was born in Brewster, Kansas on September 6, 1931, a daughter of Mary Jeanette (Turner) and Claude Dewey Nickelson.
Wanda received her G.E.D. in 1963.
Wanda attended New Life Foursquare Gospel Church McPherson, Kansas.
Wanda was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner, worked for Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide and for Northview Nursing Home both of McPherson. She then opened owned and operated Speedy Cleaning Company for 15 years prior to her retirement.
Wanda enjoyed reading her bible, watching Perry Mason and the Price Is Right on TV, doing crafts, eating chocolate mints and was known at Pleasant View as the candy lady. She also loved spending time with her family.
Wanda was united in marriage to Virgil W. Achilles on January 3, 1971 at Arkansas City, Kansas. He died on August 3, 2004.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Linda Herr and her husband Jim, of McPherson, Kansas, Carol Goering and her husband Larry, of Moundridge, Kansas; Susan Howell and her husband David, of Whitewater, Kansas; her step son, Stanley Achilles, of Newton, Kansas; her brother Lonnie Nickelson and his wife Rachel, of Newport, Washington; her half brother, Edgar Gericke and his wife Donna, of Lawrence, Kansas; her 16 Grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil, sons Darrell and Jeffrey Baker, daughter Patricia Goatley, step-son Michael Achilles, and brother Darrell Nickelson.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
The funeral service will be held at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9th, 2015 with Pastor Chuck Baker officiating.
The final resting place will be at the Crestwood Memorial Park Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
