Death of a Royal Gypsy.

Another gypsy of the royal house is dead. William H. Boswell, a brother of the husband of the late gypsy queen*, died in Modesto on Tuesday. As in the case of all members of the royal family the dead gypsy will be buried at Mountain View Cemetery in this city. The body arrived last night in charge of a delegation of eighteen gypsies. Boswell was 31 years of age, a native of Detroit and unmarried.

San Francisco Call, Volume 76, Number 155, Friday, 2 November 1894; page 7, column 2

*Note: "The late gypsy queen" refers to Odessa "Dessie" Boswell Palmer.

Local News Agencies and other outsiders understood very little about the line of succession with respect to Gypsy "royalty." Although they did their best to make sense out of relationships, this account surmised that William Boswell was the brother of the husband of Odessa Palmer, Hameline Palmer. This is not possible, as William was the son of Josiah and Onnar Boswell. However, it is thought by some that Onnar and Hameline's wife, Odessa, were Boswell sisters, making William the nephew of Odessa.
