"Co-operating 100 per cent with the war effort is the aim of George Wolfe Keople, 86, of South Cuba, shown above with part of the 3,000 pounds of meat he cured between Nov. 1 and Dec. 29 last year. In addition he maintains a large garden and in July, unassisted, bunched 10 acres of hay. He was born in a log house at Springbrook, Erie County, on Dec. 9, 1857. His parents had come to America from Alsace-Lorraine, in France, in a sailing ship, landing in New'York and made the Journey to Buffalo on foot carrying their few possessions. Mr. Keople's father was a member of the French Army for 14 years and was one of the aides sent to the Island of St. Helena to return the remains of Napoleon Bonaparte to France. Mr. Keople came to Allegany County in March, 1872, and has since lived in or near his present home with the exception of a year sent in Ohio."
