DIED--Larkin Jones, one of the old pioneer settlers of this part of the state, died at his home in Walnut on Wednesday evening August 2, 1899. He was born in Kentucky February 22d, 1822. At the age of four years he moved to Illinois with his parents. April the 5th, 1846 he was married to Sarah Botkin, who survives him. Eleven children were born to them, ten of which are living. G.W. Jones, L.E. Jones, C.M. Jones, Pittsburg, Kansas; J.H. Jones, Springfield, MO, A.M. Jones, Mena, Arkansas; Mrs. Nan Estham, Bridgeport, Oregon; Mrs. Joe Burns, J.B. Jones, Mrs. B. Burns and Mrs. Charley Burns, Walnut Kansas. There are thirty grand children and tow great grand children. He came with his family to Kansas in 1866, and settled at Uniontown. Later he moved to Osage Mission, and then to Pittsburg, and from there to Walnut. He was a man of considerable energy and at one time owned considerable property. The opera house stands as a monument to his enterprise. He had seen much and endured much in this western country in an early day.
