TACOMA -- Lt. Col. Robert B. Campbell was born in Homer City, PA, on Nov 11, 1916 to Paul Gilbert Campbell & Maple Boyle Campbell, and died in Tacoma, WA, on January 20, 2015, at the age of 98. From his years in the military, to his service at his church, Bob found a way to get a smile out of everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his two wives, Lila Greene Campbell, and Jane Fleischer Campbell, and by his sons Bobbi Campbell and Bill Talley. His surviving family includes Judy Talley, Diane Talley, Matthew Campbell Talley (Jenna Ducato), Liz Talley (Bruce Barnum) and Jane's daughter, Mary Anne Murdock.

Bob's Army career was the highlight of his life. It began in 1940 when he started as a Private and he eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His assignments included New Guinea, Japan, Libya, France and back in the USA he became Chief of Intelligence at Ft. Lewis, and later became Chief of Staff of the Brigade. Bob retired from the Army in January, 1970. He had many decorations including the Combat Infantry Badge with star, the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster, and the Army Commendation Medal. After his military career, Bob earned a Masters Degree from the University of Arizona in Nursing Home Administration, and managed several retirement homes. As a Boy Scout, Bob held the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an active member of the Tacoma Elks Lodge 174, Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Retired Officers Assn., The Assn. of the United States Army, and was commander of the Tacoma Chapter, Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW). Bob and his first wife Lila Greene Talley traveled around the world including all 50 states. Once Lila passed, Bob remarried in 2008 to Jane Fleischer, a fellow resident at his retirement home, Narrows Glen.

We will celebrate the life and stories of Bob Campbell next Sunday, February 15th, at 2:00 p.m. with High Tea at Narrows Glenn, 8201 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma, WA.
