WRIGHT, Velma Phillips, 88, of Pine Grove, W.Va., died Sunday, May 27, 2007, in the Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, W.Va.
She was born to William Lewis and L. Elizabeth Sapp Phillips on August 23, 1918.
Velma was Valedictorian of her graduating Class of 1937 at Pine Grove High School.
After graduation from West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg, she worked many years as a bookkeeper and secretary for her father at Phillips Chevrolet Company in Pine Grove.
Later she was employed at Allread Insurance Agency, which she later co-purchased and operated under the name of W-B Insurance.
She also served several terms as town recorder for Pine Grove. She found great joy in being a Christian and member of the Church of Christ and living a good life.
She will be remembered, not only for her kindness, but always dressing in a professional and attractive way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril S. Wright, in 1989; and her brother, Virgil N. Phillips.
Surviving are her son, Gregory “Greg” Wright of New Martinsville; daughter of Washington, Pa.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Pine Grove Church of Christ, with Greg Morris officiating.
Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.
