Marie was a member of St. Mary's Church, St. Mary's Choir and the Altar & Rosary Society. She served as president of the PTA for two years. During her lunch hour in high school, she delivered war telegrams to area families. She worked in the booking department of General Motors, and at the Newport Army Munitions Depot in Newport, Indiana. In her later years, she also worked as a cook at St. Mary School to help pay the tuition to send her children to Schlarman High School.
