Obituary
Joseph F. Geis, 77, died of renal failure Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston, with his family by his side.
Joe was born April 4, 1928, in Cottonwood to Michael and Anna Geis. He attended St. Joseph's School in Cottonwood, entered the Army in 1950 and served in the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1952.
Joe married Joan Wensman on June 27, 1953, and had six children.
Joe was a longtime logger and machine operator until his disability in the early 1980s.
Joe was a loving husband and father and will be remembered as a fun-loving, spiritual man.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and felt at home in the woods. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4902.
Joe is survived by his children and grandchildren: May Lou and John Ansbaugh of Winchester, Bernard and children Joe and Bernie of Cove, Ore., Diana and Gary Hattrup and children Cori and Kelley of Chehalis, Wash., Peggy and Russell Matson and children Alex, Michael and Nathan of Cottonwood, Nita and Arnie Chandler and children Cassie and Ronnie of Cottonwood and grandson Shaeffer Schongalla of New Mexico. Six sisters, two brothers, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
Joe was preceded in death by Joan, his loving wife of 50 years; a daughter, Sally, her husband Scott and their daughter Sara; his parents; two sisters and four brothers.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cottonwood. Uhlorn Funeral Home of Cottonwood is in charge of all arrangements.
