BLACKSTONE, MA – Mary E. (Cain) Forbes, 91, formerly of Ledgebrook Drive, Blackstone, MA, died Monday, February 11, 2008, in the Lydia Taft Nursing Home in Uxbridge, MA. Born in Somerville, MA, a daughter of the late William A. and Ellen (Hennessey) Cain, she was the wife of the late Edward J. Forbes, Sr.

Mrs. Forbes was educated in the Boston Public Schools. A resident of Blackstone since 1986, where she was a communicant of St. Paul's Church, she had previously lived in Bellingham, where she had been the Postmistress for twenty-six years before she retired. She was the former treasurer of the VFW Avon Auxiliary, and had been a teacher on the Gov. Dukakis Council on Literacy in MA. She was a training officer and was active in the Women's Postal Program while she was at the Boston Post Office. After her retirement from federal service, she was a volunteer at the Landmark Geriatric Clinic, and had been a van dispatcher for the Senior Center.

Mrs. Forbes leaves two sons, Edward J. Forbes, Jr., of Fort Collins, CO, and William T. and his wife Eva M. Forbes of Mapleville, RI; one brother, Frederick L. Cain of Middleboro, MA; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Thomas J. and William Cain.

Her funeral will be held from THE MENARD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul's Church, 48 St. Paul's St., Blackstone. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held in THE MENARD HOME. Burial in the family lot in New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan, MA,
