Mr. Gruber died March 22, 1999, in Sacramento after a long illness.

Born April 11, 1915, in Iowa, he moved to the area 31 years ago. He worked with Southern Pacific Railroad as a railroad switchman for 30 years. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Fairfield.

Mr. Gruber is survived by his daughters, Cindy Burnett of Vacaville and Patricia Mills of Citrus Heights; son, Troy Bonie of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Loretta DeLaBrosse of Carroll, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan in 1994.

Graveside services for Albert Leo Gruber, 83, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.
