Aaron “Shorty” Martin Rodes, 84, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the University of Virginia Hospital. Mr. Rodes was born December 15, 1930, in Rockingham County, Virginia and was a son of the late David Michael and Naomi Koogler Rodes.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He worked at Farm Bureau in the grocery department and later at A&P in the dairy department. Mr. Rodes was a member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene.

He married Betty Lam Rodes on September 1, 1957, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Scott R. Rodes of Harrisonburg; four brothers, John Rodes, Daniel Rodes, Noah Rodes and Aiden Rodes; and four sisters, Ruby Rodes, Martha Burkholder, Iva Beachy and Rhoda Bennett.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Priscilla Beery, Ruth Groff, Anna Lehman, Esther Elizabeth Rodes Good and Catherine Rodes and a brother, Joe Rodes.

Pastors Kerry Willis, Jim Harrison, Roger Dove and Margaret Michael will conduct a memorial service Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene.

The family will receive friends at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

There will be no formal viewing.
