Willia Beatrice Flemings Hampton

Eighty-five years ago, Willia Beatrice Flemings Hampton made her "Grand Entrance" into this world. June 21, 1928, her parents, the late William 'Bill' and Ida Bell Carruthers Flemings, realized they had a wondrous gift. She was raised in a family with surrounding "Strong Christian Principles." Three of those principals included God, Education and Family.

Willis B was brought up in the Primitive Baptist Church where she joined at an early age. Later she began to explore the Missionary Baptist Church where she united and became a licensed minister. She carried the theme of "Love Thy Neighbor" as she pursued many programs to salute citizens across the state. Honors and awards were bestowed upon her through various organizations.

Willia B. was a graduate of O.H. Bernard School in Centerville, TN, Mary Alice Beauty College in Nashville, TN, and Columbia State Community College in Columbia, TN. She attended Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee and the University of Florida.

Willia B. provided service through several jobs as a beautician, basketball coach and teacher for Turney Center in Centerville, TN. She was also a member of Bernard Lover's Club and an organizer for the Annual Picnic through the Hickman County Organization.

Willia B. was united in holy matrimony to Richard Allen Jones until his death. After many years of loneliness, God sent another husband, Mr. Earl Hampton, until his departure. Together they helped spread the gospel through joint ownership of a church in Columbia, TN.

Willia B. was preceded in death by sisters Annie Sue Flemings and Emma Bell Dobbins and brother Carl 'Bee' Flemings.

On Friday morning, June 28, 2013, Willia B. went home to be with the Lord.

She is survived by husband Deacon Earl Hampton; sisters Mary L Edwards of Memphis, TN and Dorothy (Charlie) Edwards of Mt. Pleasant, TN; children Minister Myra (Eddie) Buchanan, Martha Watson, Charlie, Nathaniel and Jewell Hampton, Carrie Frierson, Elizabeth Armstrong, Vera McGill and Dora Whitaker; special nieces Lawanda Edwards, Jacquelin Bland and Mabel Scates; god-granddaughters Pastor Yvonne (Thomas) Ogilvie-Gilbreath and Dr. Rose Ogilvie-McClain; special close friends the Bryant family, councilwoman Dr. Christa (Willard) Secrest-Martin, Senator Thelma Harper, Sheriff Enoch George; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The body will lie in state at Roundtree, Napier and Ogilvie Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home from 6 – 7 pm Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Visitation will be July 5, 2013 from 11 am - noon at Centerville Church of God. Funeral services to follow at 12 noon, with Rev. Joseph Myles as eulogist and Elder Richard James officiating.
