Jim Bortscheller died peacefully on February 12, 2015, with his wife Kathy and brother Larry beside him.

Jim requested "to be cremated, no funeral service or luncheon, just have my friends remember me how I was before becoming ill."

Jim attended St. Catherine's School in Oyens, Iowa, through 8th grade. He attended Remsen St. Mary's for the 4 years of high school.

Jim formed a good bond with some of his high school classmates and went into the US Army National Guard with 4 of them.

Jim married Kathy Stubenvoll in September 1975. Both of them worked at NCR, and they met there. They honeymooned on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii.

Jim graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. He also had many NCR training classes for the equipment he serviced; these classes were in Dayton, Hartford, and Reno.

Jim was a technical service representative for National Cash Register Corporation in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, Illinois, for 30 years. He started out working on cash registers, but then he serviced large main-frame computers for the last 25 years. He took early retirement from NCR in January 1994.

Before retiring to Florida in 1998, Jim and Kathy lived in the Chicago suburbs of Evanston, Des Plaines, Wheeling, and Davis, Illinois.

Jim’s hobbies included traveling, relaxing, gardening, fishing, and woodworking.

When they traveled, they found they liked Florida best, which is why they moved there. They also really enjoyed Sedona, AZ; southern California; and the fresh lobsters in Maine.

Jim enjoyed 20 years of retirement. He was involved in his condo community as treasurer of the Men’s Club, and he flipped pancakes at the monthly clubhouse pancake breakfast. Jim and Kathy traveled most of the country, camping along the way, and they visited nearly every state. Jim liked to travel in the summertime, walking the beaches, sunbathing and swimming at the clubhouse pool, and visiting Disney World.
