Selvin was born at Catlett in Fauquier County, the 2nd son of Guy G. Heflin and Rosa S. (Sherman) Heflin. His siblings were Shirley Heflin who served in World War II, buried at Quantico National Cemetery; sister Sybil Heflin Smith buried at Catlett; sister Mickey (Elzada) Heflin Guy buried at Catlett; and sister Adine Heflin Mauck.

He leaves his wife of 62 years Ruby Allen Heflin.

He is survived by four children: sons Lee Heflin, Roger Heflin (Patty), and Sterling Heflin (Glenda), and by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was in the last part of World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

And he was a lifelong member of Jehoash Presbyterian Church at Catlett where he was a deacon for many years.

Selvin lived in the family house (that of his parents and grandmother Angeline Heflin) on Route 607 near Catlett.
