Mr. DeJarnett died at 4:45 a.m. Friday at Jonesboro Health Care Center in Jonesboro.
A native of Clinton, Ky., Mr. DeJarnett served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a former volunteer firefighter with the Cairo and Tamms fire departments and was a member of the Alexander County Sheriff's Auxiliary.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma DeJarnett; two sons, James and Kenneth DeJarnett; four sisters, Catherine Dillsworth, Willie Mae Jonakin, Martha Blufford and Betty Timm; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters. His parents were Claude Ezra "Sam" DeJarnett and Sallie Mae Cagle DeJarnett.
