CANASTOTA >> Joseph A. Alger, 74, of Pine Ridge Road, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, in the comfort of his home, after an illness of several months.
Born in Albany on Aug. 20, 1940, he was a son of Ira L. and Carrie Massimo Alger. A resident of the area since early childhood, Joe was a graduate of Canastota High School, Class of 1959.
Prior to his retirement, Joe was a salesman for Hoffman Hot Dogs. He was of the Catholic faith, was known for having a zest for life, and loved to work around his yard, pool and garage.
Surviving are: one daughter, Deborah Plunkett of Woburn, Mass.; two granddaughters, Marissa and Marlena; one sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Richard Kelly of Canastota; one brother and one sister-in-law, Paul Alger and Barbara Alger, both of Canastota; close friend and former spouse, Pam Stratton of Wampsville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ira J. Alger on Dec. 31, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 S. Peterboro St., Canastota, with Deacon Adolph Uryniak, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to noon, prior to the funeral service.
